In the category of medical sciences, the top award was presented to dr Piotr Adamski from our Department of Cardiology and Internal Diseases of the Faculty of Medicine for his publication entitled: "Morphine delays and attenuates ticagrelor exposure and action in patients with myocardial infarction: the randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled IMPRESSION trial". The paper presents the world’s first randomised clinical trial which demonstrated the negative effect of morphine on ticagrelor exposure and on its antithrombotic activity in patients with acute myocardial infarction – one the leading causes of death in industrialised countries. Dr Adamski is a co-first author of the paper together with prof. dr hab. Jacek Kubica, the Vice-Rector for Research at the Nicolaus Copernicus University.
