Invitation for English Division students to join IFMSA


What is IFMSA?

The International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA) was founded in 1951 by and for medical students. It is the world’s oldest and largest independent, non-political and non-profit organization representing associations of medical students from all over the world. IFMSA is recognized as a non-governmental association within the United Nations system and the World Health Organization, and also collaborates with the World Medical Association.

What does IFMSA do?IFMSA Poland Bydgoszcz

IFMSA objectives include:

  • exposing medical students to global and charity-related health issues;
  • facilitating cooperation between the medical student community and international organizations dealing with health, education, and medicine;
  • providing medical students with the opportunity to participate in clinical and research exchanges worldwide;
  • building a network that links active medical students worldwide, including student leaders, project managers and activists, so that they can exchange their knowledge, experiences and motivation;
  • providing an international framework for medical students to initiate, develop and implement their projects;
  • empowering and preparing medical students to contribute to introducing changes necessary for improving the health of all global citizens.


What is the scope of IFMSA activity?

IFMSA operates through six standing committees:

ü  SCOME – the Standing Committee on Medical Education,

ü  SCOPE – the Standing Committee on Professional Exchange,

ü  SCORE – the Standing Committee on Research Exchange,

ü  SCORP – the Standing Committee on Human Rights and Peace,

ü  SCOPH – the Standing Committee on Public Health,

ü  SCORA – the Standing Committee on Sexual and Reproductive Health including HIV/AIDS.

How many members does IFMSA have?

IFMSA currently unites 136 National Member Organizations from more than 127 countries and represents over one million students worldwide. One of those organizations is IFMSA-Poland, which unites students from twelve Polish medical universities and is not only a pure formality. It is an amazing boost of energy, interesting connections, trips, events and much more!

Is there a section for English Division students?

Yes! The local Bydgoszcz branch of IFMSA-Poland is setting up a group for English Division students and is currently looking for more volunteers to join its ranks. Getting involved in IFMSA projects and charity events is a fantastic opportunity to:

  •           help the local community,
  • connect with fellow medical students, both in Bydgoszcz and all over the world,
  • go abroad on a clinical summer practice or research placement,
  • develop and improve your own practical medical skills,
  • start developing and enriching your medical CV.
